1. Baby due in one month. I veer between total panic and blissful calm.

2. Reading and researching like mad; soon as I get my wrists back and the ability to sit for more than five minutes I’ll be ready to write again. Working on Auctioneer; after much research it’s clear Solace needs to sit and think about its behavior for a bit longer. But Auctioneer is looking like a fun and fast romp, with lots of shiny parts. I can’t resist the shiny parts.

3. Garden planned and seeds ordered and I really want to plant things NOW. But that would be foolish.

4. I’ve been reading and thinking a lot about the recent (and ongoing) RaceFail ‘09, and have been heartened by the more thoughtful discussions that have been brought to light. There are a lot of conversations that need to be had, online and off, in the spec fic world and out of it- about race, and gender, and orientation, and class, and ethnicity, and nationality, the spaces where these overlap, and the spaces where they don’t. Those conversations aren’t supposed to be easy or comfortable. Easy and comfortable is not the point. I have theory and activism in my background, but it’s been a long time since I took a look at privilege specifically as it applies to me and mine, and I’m learning a lot. I’m not pointing out specific threads or individuals here as I have been a lurker and a passerby, not a participant, I don’t know any of the people actually involved in the discussions, and it seems disrespectful to insert myself into their conversations given those points. But I’ve been thinking about it too much to not at least acknowledge it.)

I'm so glad to hear from you! I was just thinking about you the other day, which, I know people say that, but it's exactly true, and wondering how you were doing and if you were a mom again by now :) The last month is the most difficult, hang in there.

I know what you mean about gardening, I'm anxious, too! I've only ever had one successful garden in my life, so I have big hopes for my new state's garden.

Terrific about the writing burst, ready to happen!
